Settle Inside First, Then Respond

"Not seeking outside" doesn't mean not engaging with the world. The Buddha: "Having taken up the signs of one's own mind, then take up external signs." Stabilize inside first, then handle the outside — sequence can't be reversed. Handle things while chaotic inside: chaotic results. Handle them after settling: not perfect perhaps, but at least not driven by affliction.
