Light a Lamp

One lamp before the Buddha breaks the darkness of a thousand years. The temple lights merit lamps for devotees near and far: the day the guest office receives your offering, a physical lamp is lit before the altar in your name — seven days to a period, and for a pressing need several periods may follow on. On a Buddha's or Bodhisattva's birthday, a birthday candle is lit besides, complete within the day. Complete the fields below; on submission you receive a registration number.

The 49-Day Medicine Buddha Blessing

Each year, forty-nine days before the Medicine Buddha's Birthday, the temple begins the 49-day blessing — this year from 21 September, completing on the birthday, 8 November: the venerable master chants the Medicine Buddha Sutra daily with the lamps kept burning before the Buddha for forty-nine days, each registered name carried in the daily dedication for the dispelling of calamity and the lengthening of life. The practice is the sutra's own prescription — the Bodhisattva Salvation-Deliverer teaches: worship and make offering to the World-Honored Medicine Buddha through the six periods of day and night; recite this sutra forty-nine times; light forty-nine lamps; and keep their light unbroken for forty-nine days — so one "may pass beyond peril and hardship, untouched by untimely death and harmful spirits" (Sutra of the Medicine Buddha's Original Vows, trans. Xuanzang, T14, no. 450, p. 407c). To register, choose the 49-Day Medicine Buddha Lamp in the form above.

The Perennial Lamp

The perennial lamp takes an offering of any amount — and welcomes those who have none to give: the lamp does not choose its people, and a prayer is not priced. To ask for one, simply email the guest office with the name and the prayer.

Sponsor

The sponsor is the one who registers the tablets and dedicates the merit. The registration number and confirmation are sent to this email.

Lamps

One row for each lamp: whom it is lit for, and the prayer it carries. Up to ten lamps.

Averting Calamity
Lit for the dispelling of calamity and obstruction — that hindrances melt away and misfortune keep its distance.
Benefactors
That good conditions gather and helpful friends appear — support met on the road one walks.
Medicine Buddha
Offered before the Medicine Buddha — that illness be eased, body and mind be well, and life be long.
Blessings
A prayer of blessing for oneself or one's family — that merit and wisdom grow and the household be at peace.
